Skiing and Snowboarding Begins in New Mexico:
Sipapu Breaks Terrain Records

Vadito, NM: Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort launched New Mexico’s ski and snowboarding season in record-breaking fashion on Saturday as the resort clenched the title of first resort to open in the state for the tenth consecutive year.

For New Mexico’s inaugural ski and snowboarding day, Sipapu opened more terrain than they’ve ever done on an opening day (the resort had five routes from top to bottom - including one route that was entirely on natural snow – two lifts, and a terrain park).

This year marked the third time Sipapu was able to provide top-to-bottom skiing and snowboarding during New Mexico’s first ski weekend.

Sipapu was able to start making snow on October 29 – this marked just the second time in resort history that mountain crews could get a jump start on snowmaking in October.

With snow in the forecast during the upcoming days (and solid temperatures projected for snowmaking), mountain crews are working to open more trails soon, said John Paul Bradley, Sipapu’s general manager.

Sipapu will be open everyday during Thanksgiving week, from Saturday, November 19, through Sunday, November 27. The resort will re-open for the weekend on December 3-4, and daily operations begin Friday, December 9. Lifts are open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Early season lift tickets (available opening day through December 9) are $20 for adults (ages 21-59), and $15 for teens (ages 13-20), kids (ages 7-12) and seniors (ages 60-69). Fourth graders, kids ages six and younger, guests who are 40 years old, and seniors 70 or better ski and snowboard free everyday at Sipapu. As part of the resort's 60th anniversary this year, 60-year-olds will pick up a free lift ticket everyday, too.

Following a season of record skier visits, Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort enters the 2011-2012 ski season as New Mexico’s fastest growing resort, yet visitors won’t have to wait in line for a lift. For complete information about Sipapu, visit www.SipapuNM.com.
