Nestled in the Sangre de Christo mountains on the banks of the Rio Pueblo, Sipapu is surrounded by the Pecos Wilderness and the Carson National Forest.
Sipapu is conveniently located on Highway 518, just 22 scenic miles southeast of Taos. The highway is paved, plowed, and extra wide for easy winter travel.
If you're coming in from the east (Interstate 40), you'll pass through the historic Old West town of Las Vegas (55 miles from Sipapu) and travel north on Highway 518.
If you're driving up from Sante Fe, (65 miles from Sipapu), you'll drive through the Rio Grande Valley (north on Hwy 68) passing a number of Pueblo Indian villages, along pinon covered hillsides (a few minutes past Espanola turn east on Hwy 75 to Hwy 518) traveling through the historic towns of Dixon, Penasco and Vadito.
